The Linguistic Skills of Taking a Brief

A one day workshop to help you acheive greater clarity in your conversations

If you are involved in responding to others - working on projects or producing work to the requirements of colleagues or clients, this workshop will give you more choices in how you listen, question and agree on the way forward. It will boost your capacity to lead and help you command the respect of those you work with.

We have developed this workshop after listening to many of our clients lament that they ‘should have gone back … asked more questions, …checked the purpose….clarified the brief ‘.

This workshop session is all about achieving greater clarity at the outset. How can we get at what others really mean, want and need in that first conversation?  Improve your brief-taking and requirements gathering from colleagues and clients by learning some specific approaches and practices that work from NLP and cognitive science:

·         Prevent ill-conceived ideas becoming part of your team’s workload

·         Develop greater confidence and the language skills to deal with ‘tough’ situations

·         Learn how to explore options in a positive and future-oriented style

·         Develop specific questioning skills (the meta-model) to deal with vague or limiting language

We invite you to join us for a day of inspiration to help you improve your brief taking skills

Susan Mayor Medical Communications and Fruitful Conversations

Susan Mayor and Deborah Goodall of Fruitful Conversations offer these joint initiatives to provide communicators and business leaders, particularly in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, with communications development in a leadership context.

Our latest programme of open workshops is now available and focuses on writing excellence, the language of leadership and the mental strategies that underpin successful communication at work.

We combine the highest levels of practical journalistic skill with communications psychology, authentic leadership, NLP and cognitive linguistic learning.

Once equipped with a greater understanding of the interplay between language and cognition – and the beliefs and values that drive your own and others’ communication – you can:

Inspire, persuade and motivate colleagues and clients to work with you more effectively

Understand more of what is important to others before you act

Generate the results you want through writing excellence or when talking with people

Relate genuinely to wider audiences including via the media – in both proactive and reactive situations

Our approach combines theory and practice and helps you:

Use the kind of language and leadership that build credibility and emotional connection

Draw more explicitly on some fundamental processes that underlie all speech and writing

Understand how we process and relate to information before we will act on it

Learn how to use language more specifically to guide and focus thought.
